Teaching

Orchestre Cryptonique 24-25 novembre 2018 - 12.jpg

Coming from a family with many professional teachers, Hilary Metzger has been heavily involved in a wide variety of pedagogical pursuits for over three decades. She believes in blending an intellectual and a practical approach to learning music, and has taught cello, coached ensembles and given lecture classes in musicology, in both Conservatory and University settings.

A recipient of the Certificat d’Aptitude (France’s highest teaching diploma) in cello pedagogy and awarded tenure in Early Music through the French national civil servant competition in 2013, Ms Metzger currently teaches baroque cello, directs the baroque orchestra, and lectures and supervises student research projects in ‘Culture Ancienne’ at the Ecole Nationale de Musique de Villeurbanne (near Lyon, France). She is also on the faculty of the early music department at the Pôle Aliénor in Poitiers, and teaches cello, chamber music and a course on 18th and 19th century instrumental methods for Masters students in classical and romantic historical performance through the Jeune Orchestre Atlantique program (Saintes, France).
