Performance
After her arrival in Europe, in addition to playing the baroque cello as continuist with Le Concert Spirituel, Le Parliament de Musique, La Simphonie du Marais and Les Talens Lyriques, Hilary Metzger continued to perform as a modern cellist as well, playing with such groups as l’Ensemble Intercontemporain, Musique Oblique, and l’Ensemble Alternance. For seven years, she was a member of Trio Salomé, a flute-cello-piano combination that concentrated on 20th century repertoire and performed throughout Europe and in the United States.
Ms Metzger now has an international career performing exclusively on period instruments, specializing primarily in classical and romantic repertoire. Currently, she is principal cellist of Teatro Nuovo (Will Crutchfield and Jakob Lehmann) since its formation in 2018; rotating principal cellist of Anima Eterna Brugge (Jos van Immerseel, Midori Seiler) and a regular member of L’Orchestre des Champs Elysées (Philippe Herreweghe) and Opéra Fuoco (David Stern).
She also plays chamber music with other members of these ensembles. Frequently, these collaborations are related to her research projects in historical performance.
